Dzunani Makgopa

Dzunani Makgopa is a highly accomplished Chartered Accountant (SA) and Chartered Global Management Accountant with extensive experience across financial management, audit, risk, and governance. With a career spanning over a decade in both the public and private sectors, she brings deep expertise in financial and performance management, compliance, corporate governance, and strategic leadership.

Currently serving as the CFO and Acting Head of Economic Development at the IPP Office, Dzunani plays a central role in shaping financial strategy and driving performance across critical divisions including Finance, HR, Facilities, Supply Chain Management, Internal Audit, and Economic Development. She oversees financial controls, policy development, regulatory compliance, and economic development impact reporting, all aligned with national energy objectives and long-term sustainability. Under her leadership, the IPP Office achieved two consecutive clean audits, marking a significant milestone in reaffirming the institution’s commitment to transparency, sound financial management, and good governance. She now also serves as a Non-Executive Director at ERWAT (Ekurhuleni Water Care Company).

Dzunani previously held senior roles at ERWAT, including Interim CFO, Senior Financial Manager, and Asset Manager, where she was responsible for financial strategy, governance, ICT, and supply chain oversight. Under her leadership, ERWAT improved governance and optimized enterprise performance across multiple departments.

 

She began her professional career at PwC Inc., where she led audits across a diverse range of sectors, building her foundation in financial controls, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.

An exceptional strategist and operational leader, Dzunani is known for her integrity, sharp financial acumen, and ability to translate complex regulatory and financial landscapes into actionable outcomes. Her leadership is supported by strong technical knowledge in IFRS, GRAP, PFMA, MFMA, Companies Act, King IV, and global accounting standards.

Dzunani holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting Sciences from the University of the Witwatersrand, a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting Sciences and Applied Accounting Sciences from UNISA and is a qualified Chartered Accountant (SA).

She also holds the ACMA CGMA designation through CIMA and is currently completing her master’s degree in Finance and Financial Law at the University of London (SOAS).
