Johannesburg, South Africa — 6 May 2025
The Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIA SA) successfully hosted its 2025 Public Sector Conference on 5 – 6 May 2025 at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg, Gauteng — a premier professional forum bringing together leaders, practitioners, and policymakers to advance the role of internal audit in public service delivery and national governance.
Under the energising theme “GameChangers! Serving Public Interest through Innovation,” the two-day summit showcased cutting-edge insights, thought leadership and practical strategies aimed at strengthening the internal auditing profession in the public sector. Delegates included senior audit executives, government representatives, risk and compliance professionals, and industry partners committed to enhancing accountability, innovation and ethical practices in the public sphere.
Key highlights of the Conference included dynamic keynote addresses, expert panels, and interactive breakouts covering topics such as innovation in audit methodologies, digital transformation, emerging risk landscapes, and capability building within public institutions. Sessions emphasised how internal audit can be a strategic partner for good governance and transformation across national and local government bodies.
Opening remarks were delivered by senior IIA SA leadership and featured keynote contributions from distinguished speakers, including representatives of national government and regulators. A special focus was placed on enhancing public trust and service delivery through ethical internal audit practices, while equipping practitioners with tools to tackle evolving governance challenges in the public sector.
“The Public Sector Conference is a vital platform for empowering internal audit professionals with the insight and confidence to drive meaningful change within the public domain,” said Arlene-Lynn Volmink, CEO of IIA SA. “Our industry must continue to innovate and adapt — not just to meet expectations, but to exceed them — in serving the public interest.”
