Innovating for Tomorrow: ABSIP Youth Economic Indaba 2025 Empowers Young South African Leaders
Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa — 21 June 2025

The Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP) proudly announced the successful hosting of the 2025 ABSIP Youth Economic Indaba on Saturday, 21 June 2025, at a premier venue in Sandton, Johannesburg. The Indaba, convened under the theme “Empowering Young Professionals – Driving Innovation and Growth in South Africa’s Financial Services Sector,” offered an influential platform for emerging talent to engage with industry leaders, policymakers, and peers in shaping the future of the national economy and financial services landscape.

Designed to spotlight the economic aspirations and leadership potential of young professionals and students, the Indaba provided a dynamic programme of keynote addresses, expert panels, interactive discussions, and professional networking opportunities. Delegates explored key topics such as economic inclusion, career development, financial innovation, entrepreneurship, and macro-economic growth opportunities within the financial services sector.

“In a rapidly evolving economic landscape, the voices and ideas of young professionals are central to driving meaningful transformation,” said ABSIP National President Mohau Polo Leteka. “The 2025 Youth Economic Indaba reinforces ABSIP’s longstanding commitment to nurturing talent, expanding opportunities, and equipping the next generation of leaders with the tools they need to innovate and succeed.”

The event attracted a vibrant mix of students, young financial professionals, industry leaders, mentors and corporate partners — all united by the shared goal of building a more inclusive, resilient, and forward-looking economy. Highlights included thought-provoking discussions on how young professionals can actively contribute to South Africa’s economic growth, strategies to break down barriers to entry in finance and investment careers, and insights into emerging industry trends.

In addition to high-impact sessions, the Indaba also featured a writing competition that encouraged undergraduate and honours students to contribute original thought leadership on South Africa’s economic role on the global stage — with awards and recognition presented at the closing segments of the event.

“The Youth Economic Indaba is more than a gathering — it’s a catalyst for growth, professional development, and systemic inclusion,” added ABSIP Young Professionals chair Miles Lesufi. “Our vision is to empower young leaders with the confidence, networks and insights they need to accelerate change from within the financial services sector and the broader South African economy.”
